Spring Cleaning in February
With so much going on in your everyday life, finding the time to get around to household projects can seem overwhelming. Conquer your cleaning list with these quick and easy spring cleaning projects that can be completed in just 30 minutes or less.
Sanitize High-Touch Areas
Winter is full of couped up germs! Go into spring healthy! Using a disinfectant (cleaner, spray, or wipe), go over some of the most frequently touched items in your home like light switches, doorknobs, faucets, and cabinet handles. Be sure to spray cleaner on a paper towel or make up pad and wipe surfaces, as too much cleaner in these areas (if not wiped off thoroughly) can be damaging. You can also use a cotton swab for detailed areas.
Dust at the Floor Level
While those mops, brooms and vacuums are great for quick floor clean ups, they don't do a detailed job. To get a little more thorough, put an old sock over your hand or a dryer sheet, and run your hand along the baseboards and around edging to immediately remove any dust or grime. You can also use a surface-safe all purpose cleaner to scrub away any stubborn residue. Once clean, dust once a month or more to prevent dust buildup.
Let in Light
We have fewer hours of daylight in the winter, don't waste them! Dirty windows block out light. Using a simple DIY solution of vinegar and water (or store bought cleaner), wipe down the inside of all of the windows you can accomplish in 30 minutes starting on your main level. Be sure to dry carefully to avoid streaks, using old newspaper, paper towels, or microfiber rags. The next time you have 30 minutes, pick up where you left off.
Fewer Shades of Dust
Lampshades catch a lot of dust and dirt. Use a special dusting tool, vacuum’s upholstery attachment or a lint roller to remove dust from your lampshades quickly and easily. This is also a good time to replace any burned out light bulbs or switch to cost effective, energy saving bulbs. Once you've done the shades, use a dust cloth to get the base and table.
Freshen Up Tile Grout
Brightening your tile grout can breathe life into the entire bathroom. The non-toxic way to clean is to apply a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to the grout, and let sit for a few minutes. Scrub with a brush and then rinse clean. If you grout is beyond you cleaning skill level, I have professional that will clean it and then seal it making your life easier in the future.
